2022 Exhibitions
Since 1–2.2.22, Ma Hnin has run A New Burma, an ad-hoc community of loosely-connected creatives, living life and putting on an evolving exhibition touring major cities around the world, amplifying the messages of artists and critical voices so bravely standing up for a future inclusive of all who would call Myanmar home.
Exhibitions feature expressions from people in Myanmar, those forced into exile, and from those born into diaspora communities.
The Tatmadaw is a sociological cancer. It can’t be reformed. We must take it by force, and for that we could do with some help from our International Friends.
We have exhibited in Bangkok, Melbourne, London and Manchester, showing work in protest of the “army”‘s latest power-grab, but always importantly: young artists from Myanmar presenting their inner-selves — on canvas, online, in print, in sculpture, in film, in documentary, in archives, in dance, in music and poetry and everything in between.
That freedom had been hard-won in the 2010s, and on 1.2.22 it exploded into a chaotic magik that reached and inspired the world to believe that change is possible.
We haven’t forgotten. We never forget.
